Understanding the SMALL DOg Rescue MISSION

These sweet souls have known nothing but life outdoors, bred without care or oversight. Today, that cycle ends.

We’ve welcomed 6 vulnerable puppies, 1 adult mini poodle, 1 adult Shih Tzu, and 1 very pregnant French Bulldog into safety. For the first time, they’ll know comfort, protection, and love.

With rescue comes responsibility. We are especially concerned for the pregnant Frenchie. Unlike most breeds, French Bulldogs are not meant to deliver naturally, their bodies have been overbred to the point where pregnancy and delivery are extremely dangerous. While she is stable for now, we must prepare for the serious veterinary bills ahead to safeguard her life and the lives of her pups.

This is our moment to step in and do what neglect and overbreeding never did: give them a chance.

Understanding the Hoarding/Cruelty Case

To say this past month has been horrific would be an understatement. 48 dogs were recovered from an abandoned home. This is not a traditional hoarding case, where the owners are suffering from hoarding disorder, it is simply classified as such due to the volume of animals on the premises. This is also why the owners are facing 25-30 years in prison. The 48 dogs were left there to die, without food, water, or AC. The "owners" just miles away, settling into a new property. Elberton County Animal Control stepped in, catching 48 dogs over the span of a couple weeks. Several dogs had passed on the premises. The 19 victims we personally took on at TDNR have been through IT. They all have mange and skin infections, many have tumors needing removal, many need emergency dental surgery, some were shot and have lodged pellets inside them, many have eye ulcers, and several have life altering disabilities ranges from missing limbs to blindness. They have never known what kindness truly is, and we are grateful we have the ability to show them that. They are averaging slightly over $1,000 each for their care, with a couple needing around $3,000-$4,000 of care. Anything will help us give them this right, that they deserve.
